In NYC it'd be from $80—$100 or more, depending on how naive y'all wait.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

Depends on how intricate it is. The place I went for my really piece of cake tattoo had a minimum charge of $50 (downtown Denver).

WestRiverrat's avatar

Where you alive makes a big difference. Big thing is insist on new needles or buy your own. If you buy your own they tin can be cleaned and reused. One-time needles that have been used on someone else risks hepatitis or other blood born disease.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@WestRiverrat Ok, where on Earth are y'all getting your tattoos? You shouldn't get to a place where you have to insist on that, that just exist part of the deal. Similar when yous go to a eating house and they give you a clean dish because it's what yous do, not because y'all told them they had to or you'd bring your ain. Every identify I've been to has opened the new needle in forepart of me. Needles aren't that expensive if you lot're getting them legally – it'south really merely if it's some back-aisle prison shit that it becomes an issue.

row4food's avatar

Mine was a minimum charge of $60. Information technology took about 5 minutes.

asmonet's avatar

@MyNewtBoobs: While most tattoo shops are expert virtually that, not all of them are. Stopping them before they start and watching them bring out the new needle is a ridiculously small annoyance to guarantee your health. There are disreputable and lazy people in the world who don't give a crap. Information technology's a moment's effort.

She doesn't need to walk in screaming and enervating new needles, but before it touches her skin she should make a indicate to sentinel them fix and ask for it if she didn't witness it.

@LindsayMarieee13 A lot of shops have $50+ minimums. Call effectually, find a identify in your upkeep and look at what they've done. Don't toss out a $70 store because information technology'due south xx bucks more.

That shit'south forever – the money is worth information technology. Even on a small one.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@asmonet Ok, but again, it'south like restaurants – checking to make sure the plate/loving cup/silverware seems clean is a good thought, but you lot don't really need to get out of your way to exercise it, and it'south inappreciably the norm (especially if it isn't a muddied, cockroach infested dump).

blueberry_kid's avatar

It depends on where you lot go. My mom'due south was $105, but it was a really cool frog, so it was worth it.

YoBob's avatar

Around $100 plus a lifetime of covering it up once the novelty wears off.

Truthful story: When he was much younger my son asked a man with a tattoo on his arm: "What'southward that?". He replied: "A error!"

He then went on to requite some splendid advice He said:

If you always consider getting a tattoo, get out and buy your self a dainty pair of socks. Non merely any socks, but the best pair of socks y'all take ever owned. Now yous must so vesture those socks every unmarried twenty-four hours for a year. Yous can wash them, of course, but every 24-hour interval yous must wear that particular pair of socks. If at the end of the year you still like those socks y'all are the type of person who can handle a tattoo.

At that size you'll virtually probable exist paying the shop minimum, depending on the shop it could be anywhere between $fifty–100.

FutureMemory's avatar

The shop I become to has an $80 minimum.

lillycoyote's avatar

I remember it depends on the shop, the market/area of the country/urban vs. rural/suburban market place yous are in and the complexity of the pattern, in addition to the size of the tattoo. A rose tattoo the size of a quarter is going to toll you more than than a tattoo of a circumvolve the size of a quarter. And equally others have mentioned, a shop may have a minimum charge, no matter what.

fundevogel's avatar

@lillycoyote My feel is the minimum is the cost of an hours worth of piece of work. Then a fifteen infinitesimal tattoo of a circumvolve could very well cost the same equally a rose the same size. Information technology just comes downwardly to if the rose takes more than than an hour. It would accept to exist crazy intricate for a tattoo that size to take then long.

Oh, and some shops require a deposit or consultation fee. Probably isn't and outcome hither. That'due south mostly for bigger custom projects I call back.

lillycoyote's avatar

@fundevogel I got my tattoos when I was very young, and I was very young a long, long fourth dimension agone so I probably shouldn't have answered. I will get out the answers upwards to people with more recent feel
.

fundevogel's avatar

@lillycoyote No need, I similar information technology when you pop up in questions.

ejedlicka's avatar

I recently got my first tattoo and I agree with those who say that the average minimum cost is $50. Withal, I desire to let you lot know that it is Not smart to call effectually asking shops and artists how much they would charge considering every bit I learned – they practise not similar it and actually get somewhat offended! Be very conscientious asking cost. Do research online to discover the safest shops with artists with style similar styles to what you lot are looking for. Narrow it down to ii or 3 shops and so go become consultations with the shops y'all take chosen. Some may not exist comfortable doing pieces in certain locations. During these consultations is the appropriate time to ask price – simply information technology should not exist the beginning thing that yous bring up. Expert luck getting your tattoo! I hope my tattoo etiquette lesson helped yous out!!

Allie's avatar

I have a quarter-sized tattoo. It was $60 – the minimum (usually places accept a minimum charge for tattoos).

asmonet's avatar

@ejedlicka: Artists don't like giving quotes on specific designs considering it's art and there's a consultation to discuss the tattoo, what it will involve, etc. Calling effectually to shops and asking what their minimum charge will be is a dissimilar question and one that does non provoke frustration on their function. The caller will likey non even speak to an artist in that call – they'll speak to the shop manager / aid.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@asmonet Fine art that they're doing specifically so that they can get paid and do things like pay their rent. If you lot're paying someone at all for a tattoo, the idea that this is art and above money and pricing has sorta gone out the window. Y'all enquire a painter how much it'll be to stencil some stuff on your wall, they'll give you a price without throwing a nutty. It's really not too much to enquire that someone, upon seeing the design and knowing what it will entail, give you an estimate – especially if they're a cash only joint and you need to know how much to have on hand to pay them with.

fundevogel's avatar

Nosotros've forgotten tipping. You should practice it.
